Tipperary Camogie Vice-Captain Advocates for Shorts Over Skorts
Tipperary Camogie vice-captain Caoimhe Maher recently expressed her dissatisfaction with the rule that requires camogie players to wear skorts instead of shorts. Despite efforts to change this rule, motions to allow players to wear shorts were defeated earlier this month.
Motion to Change Attire Rule
Tipperary proposed a motion to replace the requirement of wearing “skirt/skort/divided skirt” with simply “shorts” as the preferred attire for players. However, this motion was rejected, with 64% of delegates voting against it.
Player’s Perspective
Maher, along with many other players, voiced her concerns about the discomfort and impracticality of wearing skorts during games. She emphasized the challenges players face while wearing skorts and the distractions it causes during gameplay.
- Players find skorts uncomfortable and impractical
- Adjusting skorts during breaks affects focus on the game
- Majority of players prefer wearing shorts for better comfort
Reflecting on the decision, Maher stated, “It is not ideal to have to wear them. There is no one, as far as I am aware, who willingly chooses to wear skorts when given the option.”
League Success and Future Goals
Tipperary recently clinched the Very 1A National League title, marking a significant achievement for the team. Maher highlighted the team’s focus on building confidence and deserving their success through hard work and dedication.
- League victory brings satisfaction and joy to the team
- Team’s goal is to establish themselves as deserving contenders
- Focus on continuous improvement and future challenges
Looking ahead, Tipperary aims to compete for an All-Ireland title, acknowledging the tough competition in the championship. Maher emphasized the team’s commitment to hard work and staying grounded despite recent successes.
