Investigation into the Killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar
Hardeep Singh Nijjar, designated a terrorist by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2020, was shot and killed outside a Gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia, on June 18, 2023.
Canada-India Cooperation
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that his government is collaborating with India on the investigation into Nijjar’s killing. During an event in Vancouver, Trudeau emphasized the seriousness of a Canadian citizen being killed on Canadian soil.
Trudeau addressed the allegations of Indian government involvement, stating that protecting Canadians from illegal actions by foreign governments is a crucial responsibility.
The Prime Minister highlighted that Ottawa and New Delhi are working together to uncover the truth behind the incident.
Previous Statements and Relations
This is not the first time Trudeau has raised concerns about Nijjar’s killing. In September of the previous year, he mentioned credible allegations linking the Indian government to the incident.
However, India dismissed Trudeau’s claims, asserting that the focus should be on the activities of Khalistan operatives in Canada.
Trudeau’s accusations have strained relations between Canada and India, with the Indian foreign ministry stating that Canada has not provided any evidence to support its assertions.
