Canadian Authorities Arrest Individuals in Connection with Major Gold Heist
Canadian and United States authorities have made arrests in connection with what is being described as the largest gold heist in Canadian history. A total of six men have been apprehended, including two individuals of Indian origin.
Details of the Gold Heist
- 6,600 gold bars and C$2.7 million in cash were stolen from a cargo facility at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport on April 17 last year.
- Only a small portion of the stolen gold has been recovered so far.
Arrests Made
Among those arrested are Parmpal Sidhu (54) and Amit Jalota (40), both of Indian descent from Ontario. Additionally, Ammad Chaudhary (43), Ali Raza (37), and Prasath Paramalingam (35) were also taken into custody.
Lead investigator Det.-Sgt. Mike Mavity revealed that individuals working for the airline played a crucial role in the heist. Sidhu, an employee who worked in the warehouse, has been arrested and charged. Authorities are currently seeking Simran Preet Panesar (31) from Brampton in connection with the case.
“They needed people inside Air Canada to facilitate this theft,” stated Mavity.
Case Overview
Last year, a truck entered the compound with a legitimate airway bill, allowing it to be loaded with gold bars and cash before leaving. It was later discovered that the airway bill presented was a duplicate.
