Barry Manilow, 80, cancels farewell show last minute due to ‘doctor’s orders’

Barry Manilow Cancels London Palladium Concert

Barry Manilow was forced to cancel his recent concert at the London Palladium on ‘doctor’s orders’. The show was scheduled to begin at 7:30pm on May 27, but with just hours to go an announcement was made that the 80-year-old singer wouldn’t be able to perform.

Fans Show Support

Hundreds of fans had already arrived at the theatre when the news was announced. Although disappointed with the news, his fans encouraged Barry to take care of himself.

  • David wrote: ‘Please don’t push yourself. Your health is important to your fans.’
  • Caroline added: ‘Back from the Palladium. Passionate as you are you must be so disappointed. Your health comes first and we can wait. Take care of yourself, get well soon…sending you all my love.’
  • Judy, a supportive fan, said: ‘His health comes first, take care Barry we love you.’

Barry Manilow’s Residency

The singer is in the middle of a nine-date residency at the venue which he has dubbed ‘The Last, Last UK concerts’ are currently set to finish on June 9. Speaking about his decision to perform his farewell gigs at the UK location, he said: ‘In 1978, The London Palladium is where I began my love affair with the British public. These shows will be my last full concerts in Britain and I wanted to end where I began – at the London Palladium.’

Barry has sold more than 85 million albums worldwide with hits including Could It Be Magic, Can’t Smile Without You, and Copacabana (At the Copa). He currently holds the title of the longest-resident artist in Las Vegas, after he overtook the late Elvis Presley.

Last year, Barry opened up about why he kept his sexuality a secret for decades.
