Barcelona President’s Reaction
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has expressed his frustration and potential course of action following a controversial decision in the recent match against Real Madrid.
The Disallowed Goal Incident
In the 28th minute of the LaLiga match, player Lamine Yamal believed he had scored a goal, only for VAR to rule that the ball did not cross the line, despite the absence of goalline technology in the Spanish competition.
Laporta’s Response
President Laporta emphasized the importance of tools like VAR in ensuring fair competition. He has demanded access to the footage and audio related to the decision-making process of this “phantom goal” incident from the Spanish Football Federation.
In a statement on the club’s website, Laporta mentioned, “If an error is identified in the review of the incident, we will take necessary measures to rectify the situation, including potential legal action. If it is confirmed that the goal was legitimate, we may even consider requesting a replay of the game, similar to a previous incident in European football.”
Previous Precedent
Laporta cited a past case in the Belgian Pro League where a match between Anderlecht and Genk was replayed due to a VAR error, highlighting the potential for similar actions in the current situation.
Match Outcome
Despite the controversy, Real Madrid secured a 3-2 victory over Barcelona, extending their lead at the top of the table by 11 points with a stoppage-time goal from Jude Bellingham.
