Australia Investigates Ticketmaster Hack Impacting 560 Million Customers

Investigation of Massive Cyber Crime

The Australian government is currently investigating claims of a significant cyber crime linked to a hacking group known as Shiny Hunters. The group has taken responsibility for the theft of customer data from global events giant Ticketmaster.

Data Breach Details

  • The stolen data includes names, addresses, phone numbers, and partial credit card details of 560 million customers.
  • Shiny Hunters have advertised the data for sale at US$500,000 in a one-time offer.

Australian Government’s Response

In response to the incident, the Australian government has issued a statement confirming its engagement with Ticketmaster to investigate the breach. They have encouraged individuals with specific concerns to reach out to the company directly.

Assistance from FBI

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has offered its assistance to Canberra in dealing with the cyber crime incident. This collaboration aims to address the security breach and its implications.

ShinyHunters’ Notoriety

ShinyHunters gained notoriety for releasing extensive amounts of customer records from various companies, as reported by the US Department of Justice. The group’s activities led to the arrest of Sebastien Raoult, a hacker associated with ShinyHunters.

Raoult, a French national, was sentenced to three years in prison and fined over $5 million for his involvement in wire fraud and identity theft schemes.
