Famous Dublin Pub Interior Up for Auction
The entire interior of a well-known Dublin pub, Kennedy’s of Mount Merrion, is set to be auctioned off in a massive bar memorabilia event. This presents a unique opportunity for regulars who have missed the pub since its closure in October to acquire pieces of their beloved establishment.
Details of the Auction
The pub, along with the contents of the adjacent Union Cafe, has been completely dismantled and reconstructed in Oldcastle, Co Meath. The auction, taking place online over two days, features nearly 800 lots, with the pub’s items accounting for almost half of them.
Opportunity for Buyers
Prospective buyers have the chance to give the bar a new home by participating in the auction, with an estimated price tag of €100,000 for both the bar and the cafe.
Arsenal Memorabilia
Apart from the pub items, Arsenal fans will also be delighted to find a rare signed shirt from the 2003-04 Invincibles team managed by Arsene Wenger. This unique piece, originally purchased in 2004, is expected to fetch between €1,000 to €1,500.
Background of Kennedy’s Pub
Kennedy’s, formerly known as Kiely’s, was a well-established suburban pub in Mount Merrion before its closure. Owned by developer Paddy McKillen Junior’s Press Up hospitality group, the closure was part of a redevelopment plan for a mixed-use project.
Auction Highlights
The auction, organized by antiques dealer Niall Mullen and auctioneer Aidan Foley, showcases a wide range of items with a total value of €200,000. Notable highlights include the original contents of Maureen’s Bar from the Olympia Theatre, reflecting a rich history of Irish pubs and memorabilia.
Authenticity and Legacy
Mr. Mullen emphasized the authenticity and legacy that comes with these items, particularly those from family-run businesses. He noted that each piece carries a unique story and is poised to become part of the next generation of pub culture, no matter where they end up in the world.
Unique Memorabilia
In addition to the pub items, the auction will feature two lifetime collections of original road signs, enamel advertising signs, and sports memorabilia. Noteworthy pieces include rare unapproved road signs, a road marker for the River Liffey, and an original Paddy “Whisky” sign predating the company’s shift to the Irish spelling of whiskey.
Public Viewing and Auction Details
Interested individuals can view the lots, including the reconstructed Kennedy’s, at the Castle Cinema in Oldcastle. The online auction will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday at 5pm through Aidan Foley at easyliveauction.com.
