Tragic Discovery of Surfers’ Bodies in Baja California
Authorities in Baja California made a grim discovery this week, uncovering three bodies in a well that are believed to be those of Australian brothers Callum and Jake Robinson, along with their American friend Carter Rhoad.
Identification of the Victims
Mexican authorities confirmed that the families of the missing surfers have positively identified the bodies. The families of Callum and Jake Robinson, as well as Carter Rhoad, were present in Mexico for the identification process.
Details of the Investigation
The bodies of the surfers were found with gunshot wounds to the head, prompting authorities to launch a murder investigation. Baja California’s state Attorney General Maria Elena Andrade had mentioned that the identification by the families eliminated the need for DNA tests.
Disappearance of the Surfers
Callum, Jake, and Carter disappeared while surfing near the town of Ensenada, located about 90 minutes south of the US-Mexico border. They were last seen on April 27 and reported missing shortly after, leading to a search operation involving the FBI.
Suspects in Custody
Authorities suspect that the surfers were killed during an attempted theft of their pick-up truck. Three individuals, including two men and one woman, have been detained in connection with the case. One of the arrested individuals has a criminal history involving violence, drug offenses, and robbery.
