Amanda Holden and Alan Carr’s Renovated Home Sold for Six Figures
Grand Designs enthusiasts better take note as Amanda Holden and Alan Carr have reportedly sold a home they renovated for six figures. The Britain’s Got Talent judge, 53, and the Chatty Man, 47, purchased the dilapidated Tuscan home for 85p under Italy’s €1 home scheme, aimed at combating depopulation in rural towns by enticing new inhabitants.
Renovation Journey on BBC Show
Their efforts to restore the beautiful property to its former glory were documented in the second season of the hit BBC show, Amanda & Alan’s Italian Job. Now the friends’ efforts have paid off to the tune of a whopping £187,777 after they accepted an offer on the home two months after it was listed, according to The Mirror.
Charitable Donation
All of the proceeds from the pad, lovingly named after the pair, Casa Almanda, will be donated to charities Children in Need and Comic Relief.
Emotional Connection to the Property
When Amanda first entered the 17th century home, she gasped as she saw much of the previous owner’s belongings remained there, including plates on walls, little figurines and even a passport and personal photographs.
Talking to the camera, she said: ‘I feel quite emotional about this build. Because I could almost smell the history of the house, so I feel like I want to do a better job than before. I want to do the spirits proud, I know that is going to make me sound like a wally.’
Future Plans
Amanda & Alan’s Italian Job is returning to the BBC for a third season – but this time with a twist. Instead of Italy, the duo will instead concentrate their efforts in another country. Alan told The Sun: ‘We’ve loved making two series of Amanda & Alan’s Italian Job, but we’re not doing a third there — we’ve done enough Italy now. I had a great time performing stand-up in Lisbon recently, so maybe the plan could be to restore a house in Portugal.’
Italy’s €1 Home Scheme
Under Italy’s €1 home scheme, abandoned private houses are sold for the symbolic price of a single euro (85p) and the buyers must then restore the property. They’re also encouraged to move to Italy.
