Alaska Airlines Passengers Declared ‘Crime Victims’ by FBI Following Mid-Air Door Blowout

Investigation into Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max Incident

The FBI has taken significant steps in the criminal investigation of the Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max mid-air incident, indicating progress in the case.

Victims Identified

Victim specialists from the Seattle office of the federal agency have reached out to potential victims, stating, “I’m contacting you because we have identified you as a possible victim of a crime.” The investigation is currently being handled by the FBI.

Procedural Steps

The letters sent to passengers on March 19 are part of the Justice Department’s criminal investigation process. The FBI emphasized that due to the nature of the investigation, details on its progress cannot be disclosed at this time.

Support for Victims

Victims were provided with contact information, a case number, and a personal identification number to address their concerns and queries during the investigation.

Cooperation and Accountability

While the FBI did not mention Boeing in the letter, Alaska Airlines confirmed their full cooperation with the investigation. The Justice Department, FAA, and NTSB are also conducting separate inquiries into Boeing.

Incident Details

On January 5, the Boeing 737 Max experienced a panel blowout at 16,000 feet over Oregon, resulting in a rapid loss of cabin pressure. Despite the incident, the pilots managed to safely land the aircraft in Portland without any injuries to passengers or crew.

Investigative Findings

Investigators discovered that four bolts securing the panel were missing after a Boeing factory inspection in Renton, Washington.
