World Central Kitchen Chief Accuses Israel of Conducting “War Against Humanity”
As the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip reaches its six-month mark, World Central Kitchen (WCK) chief Jose Andres has spoken out, accusing Israel of waging a “war against humanity itself.” In an interview with ABC News, Andres expressed his concerns, stating that the conflict did not appear to be solely about defending Israel or combating terrorism.
Seven WCK Workers Killed in Israeli Strike
Recently, the WCK made headlines when seven of its workers were tragically killed in an Israeli strike on their aid convoy. The incident, which occurred on April 1, was deemed unintentional by Israel and took place in an area under Israeli military oversight. Among the victims were an Australian, three British citizens, and an American.
Israel Takes Action Following WCK Killings
In response to the April 1 tragedy, the Israeli military dismissed two officers and issued formal reprimands to senior commanders after conducting an inquiry. The investigation revealed that the military mistakenly targeted the WCK workers, believing them to be Hamas gunmen. It was determined that standard procedures were not followed during the attack.
The military acknowledged the grave mistake, attributing it to errors in decision-making and a failure in identification. The WCK, however, called for an independent commission to investigate the incident, questioning Israel’s ability to impartially assess its own actions.
Despite these developments, the conflict between Israel and Hamas continues, with devastating consequences for the people of Gaza.
