China Allows Visa-Free Entry for Foreign Tour Groups on Cruise Ships
Citing the National Immigration Administration, a report by Bloomberg revealed that overseas tour groups on cruise boats can now enter and stay in China without a visa for up to 15 days. This move, introduced by Beijing, aims to boost international tourism and revitalize the inbound travel market.
Details of the Visa-Free Entry Policy
Senior official Mao Xu announced at a press conference that qualifying tour groups can enter China from 13 designated ports, including Shanghai, Qingdao, Dalian, and Haikou. These groups must be managed by domestic travel agencies and are permitted to visit coastal provinces and Beijing during their stay in China.
Advantages of the Policy
Mao highlighted that this policy supports the development of China’s cruise industry and enhances people-to-people exchanges between China and other countries. The visa-free entry for foreign tour groups is expected to attract more foreign tourists to China and facilitate smoother travel experiences.
Transport Ministry official Zhu Zhenyu mentioned that China currently hosts 21 international cruise ships that operate between Chinese ports and destinations like Japan, South Korea, and Vietnam. Last year alone, 107,000 passenger trips were recorded via cruise ships in the country.
Efforts to Boost International Tourism
China’s recent initiatives to attract more international visitors include visa-free entry for travelers from select European and Asian countries, such as Singapore. These measures signify China’s commitment to expanding its tourism industry and strengthening global connections.
