Thomas Tuchel Confirms Departure from Bayern Munich
Thomas Tuchel has announced that he will be leaving Bayern Munich after the final Bundesliga game of the season against Hoffenheim. The 50-year-old revealed in a press conference that he was unable to reach an agreement to extend his stay at the club, which recently missed out on the domestic title for the first time in over a decade.
Tuchel’s Future and Speculation
With Tuchel’s impending departure, speculation is rife about his next move. There are talks about a potential switch to Manchester United, especially with the uncertainty surrounding the future of head coach Erik ten Hag.
During the press conference, Tuchel stated, “This is my final press conference from Säbener Straße. Our agreement from February still stands. We spoke about it again recently, but we did not reach an agreement.”
Tuchel further added, “The feedback from recent weeks was the foundation for us having a discussion to stay and continue together, but we couldn’t reach an agreement. I am not going to elaborate on details and motivations.”
Tuchel’s Stint at Bayern Munich
Having joined Bayern in March last year after leaving Chelsea, Tuchel was unable to maintain the club’s long-standing dominance in domestic competitions, as Bayer Leverkusen emerged as the new champions. Additionally, Bayern’s exit from the UEFA Champions League at the hands of Real Madrid has added to the disappointment.
As Bayern faces Hoffenheim in the final Bundesliga match, they need to secure a positive result to avoid slipping to third place in the league standings.
