North Korea Launches Suspected Short-Range Ballistic Projectiles
North Korea recently launched multiple suspected short-range ballistic projectiles off its east coast, according to reports from Seoul. This action followed a statement from Kim Jong Un’s sister, Kim Yo Jong, refuting accusations against Pyongyang regarding the transfer of weapons to Russia.
Recent Launches and Accusations
This launch is part of a series of similar incidents where Pyongyang has tested cruise missiles, tactical rockets, and hypersonic weapons in recent months as part of their defense system upgrade efforts.
Earlier, South Korea and the United States accused North Korea of supplying arms to Russia, potentially violating UN sanctions imposed on both countries.
Details of the Launch
The South Korean army reported detecting the launch of what they believe to be short-range ballistic missiles from North Korea’s eastern Wonsan area. The missiles traveled approximately 300 kilometers into waters off North Korea’s coast.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff stated that they are on high alert for any additional launches following this incident.
Kim Jong Un’s Inspection of Arms Factories
In response to the accusations and increased surveillance, Kim Jong Un visited arms and ammunition factories. He inspected various weapons, including sniper rifles and rocket launchers, praising their quality and directing the factories to meet production plans.
Kim also oversaw a live test-fire of controllable shells for multiple rocket launchers, emphasizing the deployment of updated rocket launcher systems to enhance the artillery combat ability of North Korea’s army.
North Korea’s Response to Surveillance
North Korea’s foreign ministry condemned the increased surveillance by US allies under the guise of monitoring UN sanctions violations. The ministry stated that necessary measures would be taken to defend the sovereignty and security of the state against the negative influences caused by certain countries participating in these monitoring activities.
