Julianne Moore’s Tesco Adventure
You never know who you might bump into during your weekly shop — even Hollywood icon Julianne Moore. It turns out the Oscar-winning actress is no stranger to popping into Tesco for her Few Bits, and she appears to have an absolute blast while doing so.
Celebrating a Friend’s Birthday
The May December star celebrated a friend’s birthday this week the way so many of us do: sharing random photos of them to Instagram, with the message ‘happy birthday beauty – we love you.’ And in Julianne’s case, celebrating pal Kibriyaá’s birthday came in the form of sharing a photo of them shopping in Tesco.
In the snap, Julianne, Kibiyaá and another friend stand in for a selfie in the self check-out screens, and the legendary actress looks to be in absolute bits. Beaming and laughing, the 63-year-old is seen holding a carton of milk while Kibiyaá grins with her hands on her shoulders.
And, naturally, fans couldn’t believe what they were seeing. Instagram user dirtywitches said it all with her comment: ‘If I saw Julianne Moore in Tesco I’d freaking lose my s**t.’ Amelia_elasar declared ‘imagine bumping into JULIANNE MOORE in your local Tescos,’ while seitzgeist shared the similar sentiment ‘NOT JULIANNE MOORE IN TESCO!’ And thetiredlecturer wrote: ‘Unexpected item in the bagging area at Tesco’ — which is an understatement.
Winning Back Hearts and Minds
Her adventure to Tesco has clearly won Julianne back the hearts and minds of Brits after she almost caused a riot by insulting the culinary excellence that is mashed potatoes. Speaking on the HappySadConfused podcast in December, the star asked: ‘Why do people like mashed potatoes? It’s just mush. People love them. It’s just mashed mush.’
And of course, people were quick to shame her, flocking to social media where X user Chunk wrote that they were ‘appalled’. ‘You dare violate the sanctity of the potato in mashed form,’ they wrote, while someone else called it ‘heartbreaking’.
Julianne has also waded into UK politics in the past, labeling then-Prime Minister Boris Johnson ‘a clown’.
