Upcoming Visit
US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan is set to visit Delhi in the coming week to engage in crucial discussions with his Indian counterpart, NSA Ajit Doval.
Agenda
The primary focus of Sullivan’s visit is to review the progress of the Critical and Emerging Technologies (iCET) initiative. The discussions will center on enhancing strategic technology partnerships and defense industrial cooperation between the two nations.
Sullivan is anticipated to arrive in Delhi around the 18th of April.
iCET Initiative
The iCET initiative, led by the National Security Advisers of both countries, aims to leverage advanced technologies for mutual benefit and global progress.
The inaugural meeting of the iCET was held in Washington, D.C., in January of the previous year. Subsequent talks were planned for Delhi this year, with Sullivan’s visit scheduled for February, which unfortunately did not materialize.
Current Context
The upcoming visit occurs amidst various developments in the US-India relationship. Recent events, such as India’s response to remarks by the US State Department on the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal, the Pannun case, and joint military exercises like Tiger Triumph, demonstrate ongoing efforts by both countries to align their interests and address differences.
