Xabi Alonso Confirms Commitment to Bayer Leverkusen, Rules Out Summer Transfer to Liverpool

Xabi Alonso to Stay as Bayer Leverkusen Manager

Xabi Alonso has announced that he will continue as the manager of Bayer Leverkusen for the upcoming season, putting an end to speculations about him potentially joining Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp’s successor.

Success with Bayer Leverkusen

The former midfielder has led Bayer Leverkusen to a remarkable 10-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga table with eight games remaining in the season. The team is on an unbeaten streak in all competitions and is also aiming for success in the Europa League and DFB-Pokal.

Alonso’s Decision

Alonso expressed his commitment to Bayer Leverkusen during a press conference, stating, “I’m in the right place here. I’ll stay with Bayer. My job is not over here, and I believe it’s the right decision for me at this moment.”

He emphasized the enjoyment of the current situation and the determination to achieve the team’s goals in the remaining months of the season.

Impact on Liverpool and Potential Successors

With Alonso’s decision, Liverpool now needs to explore other options for Klopp’s successor. Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim and Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi are among the names being considered for the role.

Alonso had attracted interest from Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, but he has chosen to continue his managerial journey with Bayer Leverkusen.
