Scammer Disguised as Bride Scams Groom in Indonesia
In a shocking turn of events, a 26-year-old man in Indonesia fell victim to a scam where his bride turned out to be a man. The elaborate deception left the groom devastated after discovering the truth just 12 days into their marriage.
Online Relationship Turns Deceptive
- The couple met on an online platform and quickly developed a relationship.
- Despite dating for over a year, the groom was unaware that his partner was actually a man.
- The scammer posed as a woman to deceive the groom and extract money from him.
The Deceptive Marriage
The groom, hailing from Naringgul, Java, met the scammer, who went by the name Adinda Kanza, on a social media platform in 2023. The scammer, disguised as a devout Muslim woman, managed to deceive the groom by always wearing a hijab that covered their face.
As the relationship progressed, the couple decided to get married in a modest ceremony at the groom’s home. Despite bringing a dowry of 5 grams of gold, the marriage was not officially registered.
Unveiling the Deception
Twelve days after the wedding, the groom started to suspect something was amiss. The bride’s behavior, including avoiding communication with the groom’s family and maintaining veiled attire even at home, raised red flags.
Upon further investigation, the groom discovered the scammer’s real identity. It was revealed that the supposed bride was actually a man who had been cross-dressing since 2020. The scammer’s parents were also unaware of their child’s fraudulent actions.
Legal Consequences
Subsequently, the scammer was arrested and is facing fraud charges. If convicted, they could be sentenced to up to four years in prison for deceiving the groom and attempting to steal his family’s assets.
It serves as a cautionary tale highlighting the importance of thorough verification and due diligence, even in personal relationships.
