Thomas H. confessed to approaching the Russian consulate and embassy to offer his cooperation, passing on information acquired through his professional duties to a Russian intelligence service. He acknowledged the accuracy of the accusations against him, expressing regret for his actions driven by concerns about potential German involvement in the conflict in Ukraine.
His primary motive was to gather intelligence before a potential nuclear escalation to ensure his family’s safety. This apocalyptic fear led him to make what he described as a “stupid idea” of reaching out to Russian authorities.
