As Simply Red prepares to tour the UK once more, frontman Mick Hucknall made a rare appearance in public. The British icons are riding the nostalgia wave and heading out on a 40th-anniversary tour next year, having originally formed in 1985 in Manchester.

Mick, 63, has stepped back from the spotlight in more recent years after confessing he ‘doesn’t miss’ his days of wild partying and womanizing. The Stars singer keeps to himself nowadays, living his life as a dad and husband, usually hiding his instantly recognizable hair under a hat.
Simply Red’s Upcoming Tour
On this outing, he opted for a beanie and wore a gilet over the top of his t-shirt as he took a stroll in North London with his dog. Mick is the only member of Simply Red’s original lineup still in the band, with keyboardist Fritz McIntyre passing away in 2021. Next year, the current lineup, fronted by Mick, will tour South America before heading to the UK for gigs in cities like Birmingham, Leeds, and London.

The band’s initial releases saw some low chart success, but it was The Right Thing in 1987 that launched Simply Red into the mainstream.
Mick Hucknall’s Personal Life
Despite heading back on tour, Mick won’t be rekindling his playboy past, having settled down with wife Gabriella Wesberry and their teenage daughter. Discussing his antics previously, the singer said: ‘I think in your life it’s a good thing to have dimension, to have done lots of different things, to have lots of different experiences.’
He told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: ‘I am a father and a husband [now]. And I’m still having a good time. Very, very different, yeah, but I love it. Those days are long gone. I don’t miss them. I’m in a much happier place now than I’ve ever been in my life.’
