Brin Pirathapan Wins MasterChef 2024
The MasterChef 2024 champion has been announced after eight weeks of increasingly tough challenges. Veterinary surgeon Brin Pirathapan, from Bristol, has won the long-running BBC show after smashing the high-stakes cook-off. The 29-year-old beat fellow finalists and runners-up Louise Lyons Macleod, 33, and Chris Willoughby, 44, at the last hurdle.
Brin’s Winning Menu
- Fried capers, pickled chilli, pickled and charred shallots, orange and honey-glazed octopus with tempura mussels, herb tuilles dusted with scallop roe, an orange gel and samphire, on romesco sauce.
- Spiced venison loin, beef short-rib and pickled mushroom tartlet, celeriac and miso purée, salt-baked beetroot and pak choi, served with a gochujang and red wine sauce split with a herb oil.
- White chocolate and cardamom and saffron cremeux, with pistachio meringue shards, whisky-poached mango, raspberry gel, pistachio crumb and a mango, lime and chili sorbet.
Brin collected the coveted trophy from judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace after whipping up an elite three-course menu. John told the finalists: ‘Twenty years, we’ve been doing MasterChef. That is the best final we’ve ever done.’
Brin said he would ‘love’ to work in the food industry as a cookbook author or as a chef for supper clubs and private dining.
