Scottie Scheffler’s Legal Situation

Scottie Scheffler’s lawyer is prepared to go to trial if the charge of assaulting a police officer is not dropped. The incident occurred when Scheffler was trying to drive into Valhalla Golf Club in heavy traffic caused by an earlier accident.

Details of the Incident

  • Scheffler was arrested after a male pedestrian died in an unrelated accident.
  • According to the police report, Detective Bryan Gillis attempted to instruct Scheffler, who then allegedly accelerated forward, dragging the detective to the ground.
  • Scheffler faces charges of second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals.

Legal Defense

Scheffler’s lawyer, Steve Romines, stated that they are prepared to go to trial as they believe Scheffler did nothing wrong. Romines emphasized that it was a miscommunication.

Upcoming Arraignment

The arraignment is set for Tuesday, where a plea of not guilty will be entered. Romines mentioned the possibility of rescheduling the arraignment.

Bodycam Footage

Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg confirmed that there is no bodycam footage of Scheffler’s arrest. However, footage from a fixed camera near Valhalla will be released in the coming days.

Post-Arrest Performance

After being released, Scheffler managed to card a second-round 66 at the US PGA Championship, trailing the halfway leader Xander Schauffele by three shots.
