About the Met Gala
The Met Gala, renowned as fashion’s grandest night, is an annual event held on the first Monday in May. It marks the opening of the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition at the prestigious New York museum.
This Year’s Theme: The Garden Of Time
The official dress code for this year’s Met Gala is The Garden Of Time, drawing inspiration from a story by JG Ballard. The narrative revolves around a man who reverses time by plucking each flower in his garden until it withers, potentially sparking a myriad of floral and botanical ensembles.
Guests and Co-Chairs
The guest list for the event remains a closely guarded secret, but over the years, iconic looks have been unveiled by celebrities like Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian, Billie Eilish, and Rihanna. Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour has overseen the Met Gala since 1995.
This year, the celebrity co-chairs are Zendaya, Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez, and first-time attendee Chris Hemsworth. Zendaya, known for her innovative style, recently captivated audiences with her futuristic and sci-fi-inspired outfits during the Dune: Part Two press tour.
Meanwhile, Jennifer Lopez has been a fixture on the Met Gala red carpet, attending 13 galas since 2004.
The Exhibition
The Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion exhibition will showcase approximately 200 delicate and rare pieces from the Costume Institute’s archive, all inspired by the wonders of the natural world.
The exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art is scheduled to run from May 10th to September 2nd.
