Recall of Ground Beef Sold at Walmart Stores
Recently, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued a recall of over 16,000 pounds of ground beef sold at Walmart stores nationwide. The supplier of the ground beef, Cargill Meat Solutions, received a High-Class 1 recall due to potential E. coli contamination, signifying a significant health risk.
Details of the Recall
- The ground beef was distributed to Walmart stores in several states, including Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and West Virginia.
- The affected meat was produced on April 26 and 27, with the recall specifically targeting packages sold after these dates.
- All recalled products are marked with the establishment number “EST. 86P” on the back label.
Actions to Take
Consumers who purchased the recalled ground beef are advised to inspect the labels and return the product to the store for a complete refund.
Symptoms of E. Coli Contamination
Individuals exposed to E. coli may experience symptoms such as diarrhea, stomach cramps, and vomiting within three to nine days. In severe cases, symptoms can escalate to include high fever, dehydration, and an inability to retain fluids, leading to potential kidney failure and, in extreme cases, fatality.
It is crucial for those who may have consumed the affected ground beef to be vigilant for any signs of illness and seek medical attention if necessary.
