Earth Hour, which originated in Sydney, Australia in 2007, has evolved into a significant global event with millions of participants across 190 countries and territories.

Cities worldwide are embracing Earth Hour, with iconic landmarks dimming their lights for an hour on a designated Saturday.
About Earth Hour
Organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Earth Hour encourages individuals and communities to switch off non-essential lights and electrical appliances for one hour, typically from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm local time, as a symbolic gesture of commitment to the planet.
Objectives of Earth Hour
- Raise awareness about climate change
- Promote energy conservation
- Encourage sustainability
India’s Participation
India has actively joined Earth Hour, with prominent landmarks like India Gate, Akshardham Temple, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, and Howrah Bridge dimming their lights in support of the cause.
WWF’s Campaign
This year, WWF has launched a campaign urging individuals to dedicate an hour to eco-positive activities leading up to Earth Day on April 22.
Earth Day and Environmental Advocacy
Earth Day, established in 1970, serves as a global platform for environmental advocacy, education, and activism, emphasizing the importance of responsible stewardship of our planet.
“Environmental action can be easy, fun, and impactful. By engaging a broader audience, we aim to raise awareness and drive collective efforts to safeguard our planet,” said Katy Fenn, WWF’s director of brand engagement and education.
