Amid ongoing pro-Palestinian protests at universities across the United States, Northwestern University in Illinois has reached an agreement to end the encampment set up on campus.
Agreement Details
- Students are required to dismantle the encampment set up on Deering Meadow since Thursday (Apr 25).
- The university pledges to ensure more transparency in its investments.
- Protests and gatherings in support of Palestine will be allowed at the Deering Meadow in exchange for ending the encampment.
- Only NU students, faculty, and staff can protest at the Deering Meadow in support of Palestine until June 1.

Protests demanding divestment from Israel and an end to the war in Gaza have been ongoing at Northwestern and other campuses.
Northwestern Divestment Coalition
The coalition praised demonstrators for growing the encampment without suspensions or arrests.
The group called for the university to end partnerships with Israel and disclose investments supporting apartheid and occupation.
University Response
The university will answer questions about investments and reestablish an Advisory Committee on Investment Responsibility.
Northwestern University will fund Palestinian faculty members and undergraduate students as part of the agreement.
