Background
Thai model Kaikan Kaennakam’s life took a tragic turn when her body was discovered in a morgue in Bahrain, more than a year after she disappeared from social media and stopped communicating with her family in Thailand.
The Journey
Kaikan’s journey began in the glamorous world of modeling but took a different path when opportunities dried up. She made the decision to move to Bahrain and work in a restaurant to support her family back home.
Disappearance and Discovery
Concern arose when Kaikan suddenly vanished from online platforms in April 2023. Despite frantic efforts from her family, she could not be located. It wasn’t until April 18, 2024, that the Thai embassy in Bahrain confirmed the discovery of an unidentified Southeast Asian woman’s body matching Kaikan’s description in a local morgue.
Cause of Death
The official cause of death was cited as acute lung and heart failure from alcohol poisoning. However, suspicions within Kaikan’s family were raised due to alleged bruising visible in social media photographs shared before her death.
Family’s Concerns
Suthida Ngernthaworn, Kaikan’s sister, expressed doubts about the official explanation and highlighted the evidence of bruising and cuts on Kaikan’s body. The family faces financial obstacles in repatriating her remains as they lack travel insurance.
Seeking Justice
In their quest for justice, the family sought the support of philanthropist Paveena Hongsakul, known for her work in women and children’s welfare in Thailand. Paveena has collaborated with the Police General Hospital to conduct a fresh examination of Kaikan’s body.
