Denmark Airport Bomb Threat Incident
Denmark police authorities took a man into custody in connection to a bomb threat at Billund Airport, one of the country’s busiest. The South East Jutland Police received reports of the threat around 10:30 am on Saturday (Apr 20) following which the evacuation of all passengers and staff was done by 11:40 am. With the airport shut down, investigations are ongoing, and it remains uncertain when operations will resume.
Investigation and Evacuation
Police are exploring potential connections between this incident and an earlier ATM bombing in Billund. The airport’s closure disrupted numerous flights, including those bound for Amsterdam, Frankfurt, and Barcelona, as per AFP news agency.
Police Inspector Michael Weiss while speaking over the orderly evacuation process, reportedly said, “The evacuation has proceeded calmly and as expected, with travellers following our instructions.”
Current Situation
“Right now we are conducting an investigation where we are questioning the arrested man… there is a lot of investigative work and a lot of technical work… we need to investigate whether it is serious or something that was said in jest.”
While the detained individual is under investigation, details regarding his nationality remain undisclosed. Law enforcement, and bomb disposal teams are actively investigating the scene.
Atmosphere at the Airport Hotel
Photographs captured at the airport depicted a man being escorted away by police officers in handcuffs. The extent of involvement of any additional person remains uncertain at this time.
Canina Rodriguez, one of stranded passengers, at the Airport Hotel while speaking to a media outlet praised the hotel staff for their service, which includes complimentary coffee and access to hotel rooms for restroom use.
