Despite significant investments totaling over a billion euros to ensure the safety of the river for swimming for the first time in a century, the threat of heavy rain in the French capital could lead to increased levels of E Coli in the water. Samples taken by the Surfrider Foundation Europe charity have already indicated dangerous levels of bacteria in the water, just over a hundred days before the scheduled start of the games.
