Recent Incidents in the Gulf of Aden
Amid escalating tensions in the Gulf of Aden, recent reports shed light on targeted attacks on vessels in the region.
Alleged Houthi Attacks
Yemen’s Houthi rebel group claimed responsibility for launching attacks on British, US, and Israeli ships using rockets and drones. The group stated that it targeted two Israeli vessels in the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean, as well as a British ship and several American frigates in the Red Sea.
British Security Company’s Alert
Prior to the Houthi claims, a British security company, Ambrey, received intelligence indicating a vessel was targeted in the Gulf of Aden. The incident reportedly occurred approximately 102 nautical miles southwest of Mukalla in Yemen. Vessels in the area were urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
Additional Incident in the Gulf of Aden
Separately, another incident involved a projectile landing near a vessel in the Gulf of Aden, with no damage or injuries reported. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency confirmed the incident, which took place 59 nautical miles southwest of the Yemeni port of Aden. The vessel’s crew remained safe despite the close proximity of the projectile impact.
