Max Verstappen Dominates Japanese Grand Prix
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff believes that Max Verstappen’s fourth consecutive title in Formula One is already a foregone conclusion following his dominant victory at the Japanese Grand Prix. Verstappen, the reigning drivers’ champion, secured a comfortable win at Suzuka, leading a Red Bull one-two finish with Sergio Perez taking second place.
Verstappen’s Commanding Performance
After a first-lap incident that led to a restart, Verstappen took control of the race by leading into the first corner twice. He maintained a strong pace throughout, securing both the chequered flag and the fastest lap to extend his lead in the drivers’ championship to 13 points.
Red Bull’s Strong Start in the Season
Despite a brake failure in Melbourne, Verstappen has shown impressive form in the opening races of the 2024 season. With 20 races remaining, Wolff is confident that Verstappen will continue to dominate the competition.
Reactions from Team Principals
While Wolff predicts another year of Red Bull dominance, Christian Horner, the opposing team principal, remains optimistic about the remaining races. Horner dismissed Wolff’s predictions and praised Red Bull’s performance at Suzuka.
Verstappen responded to Wolff’s comments in a lighthearted manner, noting the positive remarks from his rival. Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz secured the final podium spot with a strategic race for Ferrari, overtaking Lando Norris who faced challenges with McLaren’s pit strategy.
Ferrari’s strong showing continued with Charles Leclerc finishing fourth, while Fernando Alonso and George Russell showcased impressive performances to secure sixth and seventh places, respectively. Lewis Hamilton, despite a promising qualifying session, struggled during the race and settled for ninth place.
Yuki Tsunoda made history by becoming the first Japanese driver in 12 years to score points at Suzuka, finishing in 10th place for RB.
