Israel-Hamas Conflict Update: IDF Withdraws Troops from Southern Gaza Strip

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) has announced the withdrawal of all ground troops from the southern Gaza Strip, except for one brigade, amid the ongoing conflict with the Palestinian militant group Hamas.

Details of the Withdrawal

  • The IDF spokesperson confirmed the withdrawal after four months of fighting in the Khan Younis area.
  • Currently, the Nahal brigade remains in the Gaza Strip, responsible for securing the Netzarim Corridor.
  • The Netzarim Corridor runs from the Be’eri area in southern Israel to the coast of the Palestinian enclave.

Uncertainty Surrounding Further Actions

It is uncertain whether the withdrawal will affect the planned incursion into the southern Gaza city of Rafah, where a significant number of Palestinians have sought refuge.

The proposed ground operation in Rafah has faced criticism from aid agencies, the United Nations, and several countries.
